This unscripted “fireside chat” will give the audience a glimpse of those private conversations– featuring three industry analysts discussing the hot exhibitor news announcements, trends and show buzz—offering an exclusive real-time industry insider’s perspective.

Julie Kunstler has more than 25 years of experience in the communications components, equipment and software industry. She is responsible for the FTTx market with a focus on optical components for PON, closely following technology changes and subsequent impacts on the PON ecosystem. In addition, she is monitoring the challenges in both FTTx network deployments and management along with evolving changes in PON component features that alleviate these challenges. Julie has worked as an executive, investor and board member for communications companies. Having served in these numerous roles, Julie understands what it takes for new communications technologies to be deployed in large numbers and across multiple geographies. Julie brings her knowledge of the pressure on telcos to offer bandwidth-hungry applications along with the margin requirements of component vendors. Julie is a regular participant at industry events around the globe. Prior to joining Ovum, Julie served as VP Business Development for Teknovus, focusing on FTTX deployments in Asia Pacific, OEM agreements with major equipment vendors, corporate strategy, analyst relationships, business planning and fund raising. Before Teknovus, Julie served as co-founder and general partner for Portview Communications Partners, a VC fund focusing on investments in early-stage communications technology companies. Julie received her MBA from the University of Chicago.

Jimmy Yu re-joined Dell’Oro Group in 2008 and is responsible for the Microwave Transmission, Mobile Backhaul, and Optical Transport market research programs.
Yu originally joined Dell’Oro Group in 2001, and spent over four years as the primary analyst for Dell’Oro Group’s Optical Transport program and built our coverage of the PON market. In 2006, Yu joined Spansion, a leader in flash memory solutions, where he was a Strategic Product Marketing Manager for Spansion’s server memory subsystem product line.
Prior to joining Dell’Oro Group in 2001, Yu worked for Deloitte Consulting in the strategy and operations group as a Management Consultant with a focus in the high-tech industry. Yu began his career in Northrop Grumman’s space technology group, where he was a lead mechanical engineer developing satellite communication subsystems and components, such as transceivers. While at Northrop Grumman, he also developed advanced packaging approaches for millimeter wave RF semiconductors, circuit boards, fiber optics, and photonics.
He is a recognized authority in the Optical Transport Market and has written articles in various industry magazines such as Lightwave. He is frequently quoted in publications such as BusinessWeek, Converge! Network Digest, Dallas Business Journal, Network World and Xchange.
Yu received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of California Davis and an M.B.A. in General Management with an emphasis in Corporate Strategy and Finance from the University of Michigan.
Andrew Schmitt, Principal Analyst, Optical, Infonetics Research
Andrew Schmitt is one of the most quoted and respected analysts in the optical network industry, leveraging 20 years in telecom including tenures at Vitesse Semiconductor, where he ran the carrier chipset unit, and Nyquist Capital, where he was a general partner at the investment consulting firm focused on the optical sector.
Schmitt joined Infonetics Research in 2009 and leads its optical coverage, authoring numerous market share and forecast reports, surveys, and opinion pieces on metro and long haul optical, SONET/SDH, WDM, and ROADM to packet-optical transport, OTN, and 10/40/100G+ adoption. As a consultant to startups, service providers, vendors, and the investment community, he helps clients identify new market opportunities, provides due diligence, and advises on positioning, product development, business plans, and M&A activity.
