The first combined OFC/NFOEC debuted to a crowded exhibition and strong technical sessions. With more than 750 presentations focused on the industry’s hottest topics, FTTx and ROADMs at the top of the list, the conference again established itself as the leading technical conference for optical communications. Special industry sessions, like the Service Provider Summit and Market Watch, showcased the newest information and projections for the field and delivered messages to standing-room only audiences. OFC/NFOEC is the show to present new product and corporate announcements and many were made at the 2005 conference, including important ones from Corning, Broadlight, Luna Technologies and others.
The exhibition grew to approximately 650 companies this year, an increase over last year’s participation, and approximately 40% of these exhibitors were international companies, solidifying OFC/NFOEC as the number one international event for the field. Throughout the conference, exhibitors were indicating that their floor traffic was strong and that the quality of leads they received made this one of their best OFC/NFOEC shows. The strength of the exhibition was also apparent in our sales effort -- our on-site rebook rate was higher than previous years.
Attendance for the field’s leading conference was also quite strong, reaching 13,111 registrants. We recognized an increase in student attendance and also saw a healthy international registration of 3,500, with 12% coming from key Asian markets.
OFC/NFOEC 2005 was a great success. The co-sponsors are looking forward to seeing you in Anaheim for the 2006 show, March 5-10.
