Participation from OFC's core research, exhibitor and attendee communities was quite strong. 2003 research paper submissions reached an all-time high, with a 9% increase over last year to more than 1,300 papers (1,325 including post-deadlines). We had 622 paper presentations and 9 tutorials onsite at the conference.

Nearly 900 companies (879) exhibited during the event, with remarkably few cancellations despite numerous corporate travel restrictions imposed that week, reiterating that OFC is a must-attend show for its exhibiting community and technical audience.

Just over 15,000 attendees (4,358 technical, 5,397 exhibit, 5,268 walk-in) registered for the conference and early feedback indicates that participants gave the 2003 meeting high marks for content as well as for the quality of the exposition!

Though attendance was down this year, the conference was in full force, with key technical and product advancements unveiled and new business programming, including OFC's Market Watch and the Service Provider Summit, drawing prominent industry decision makers.
